FAQS
ExcursionsCheck the general conditions to find out the requirements you must meet, the equipment you need to bring, or the cancellation policy, among other things.
Is a double or single kayak better?
One of the things we love most about kayaking is being able to enjoy the closeness to the rocks and discover all the hidden corners. Sometimes this means passing through narrow spots where double kayaks can have more difficulty due to their larger size and the increased challenge of maneuvering them, as progression with these boats requires the synchronization of both paddlers. On the other hand, the view of the person in the stern (back) is limited by the body of the person in the bow (front).
Although it is easier for us to work with double kayaks than with singles, since it reduces the number of boats in the water, we always recommend the use of single kayaks. That said, if you’d like to use a double, you just need to let us know at the time of booking.
What is the support boat for?
As required by regulations, for all the guided activities we organize, we use a motorboat that follows the participants’ route in parallel for safety reasons. At any moment, whether due to a sudden change in weather or because someone is tired or feels unwell, the support boat can evacuate us back to the starting point or serve as a base to rest and recover without falling behind.
In addition, the support boat is also used to carry the gear that participants may need at the rest stop (towel, sandwich, snorkel…). From the boat, if you don’t mind and whenever possible, we’ll also take photos so that you can take home a memory of the excursion.
I’ve never been kayaking, is that a problem?
Not at all. Before starting, we always give a detailed explanation about handling the kayak, and during the activity we help resolve any doubts or difficulties that may arise.
Is it very tiring? How long will we be “paddling”?
You’ll find information on the distance and duration of the different guided excursions in each Technical Sheet on this website. Keep in mind that the duration of the activity, usually between 3 to 4 hours, includes the rest stop halfway through and all the small breaks we take without getting out of the kayak. The actual time “paddling” is much less than the total duration. In any case, we can use the support boat to rest whenever needed.
Can I get seasick while kayaking?
Seasickness is less common in kayaks than in larger boats. However, if you are prone to seasickness, be aware that on days with swell it may happen. If that’s your case, we recommend taking some anti-seasickness medication before starting the activity if there is a forecast of swell. You can also ask the guides when you arrive at the beach if the sea conditions at that moment could cause seasickness.
Can children join the guided excursions?
Minimum age 13 years and 145 cm in height.
What happens if the weather conditions don’t allow us to do the activity?
If the forecast is not favorable, we will notify you as early as possible to save you the trip. However, sometimes the forecast can be completely wrong, and prioritizing your safety and enjoyment, we may be forced to cancel the activity at the last moment or even once we’ve already started.
If we are forced to cancel, either beforehand or during the activity, you will be entitled to postpone the activity or receive a refund of the amount paid.
Can we just show up at the beach for a guided excursion or do we need to book in advance?
It is necessary to make a reservation in advance to join a guided excursion. You can book online, by email, or by phone at +34 972 773 806.
Will I be able to leave my belongings somewhere?
Yes, at our beach bases we have some space where you can leave your things during the excursion. However, space is limited, so it’s best not to bring anything unnecessary.
What can we take inside the kayak?
You can only bring items that can get wet. If you wish, you can take a drink or a waterproof camera/phone. If you need to bring anything else for the rest stop, like a towel, snorkel, or some food, we’ll carry it on the support boat and give it to you when you land.
Can I bring my phone to take photos?
If you have a waterproof phone or camera, you can bring it in the kayak, but keep in mind it’s not easy to use them during the activity, and we’ll already be taking photos for you to remember the day. If you’d like, we can provide a waterproof case at cost price (€2). We can also transport your phone or camera, waterproof or not, to the rest stop so you can use it there.
Can I lose my glasses?
If your glasses fall into the water, you’ll almost certainly lose them. For this reason, we recommend protecting them with a retention strap or not wearing them unless strictly necessary. If you don’t bring your own, we can provide one of ours, but keep in mind that no system completely eliminates the risk of losing your glasses.
What’s the difference between a guided excursion and a rental?
In guided excursions we use classic kayaks, also called touring or sit-in kayaks (closed cockpit). These kayaks are faster and less stable than the regular rental kayaks (sit-on-top) and offer a more authentic paddling experience. Besides the difference in kayaks, the guided excursions are led by guides who show us all the hidden corners of the coast and explain the most relevant aspects of the environment. Excursions also include the presence of a support boat to ensure participants’ safety.
Rentals, although not guided, include advice from the staff at the bases and maps and downloadable tracks for your phone to follow the routes. The kayaks used are very easy to handle, and no technical knowledge is needed to deal with a capsize. If you rent a kayak, you can go wherever you want at your own pace.
